Angry Re: How To: Instrument cluster bulb replacement

Ok I just changed my Instrument Lights on my 1999 Ford Ranger, I went step by step with the pictures provided, after I put everything back together I now have no Interior Dome light and the windshield wipers do not work, I took everything apart again to see if I pinched a wire and I checked the fuses and every thing was good. What do I do Now? I have no adjustable steering column and all the wires clicked back into space but I do not thonk that the wires to te instrument panel have anything to do with the wipers or the dome light. also the reostat works because the instrument lights go dim when I turn the wheel.

I had a wire pull loose in the steering column once & it disabled the wipers. I dont remember about the dome light though.

After taking apart the instrument panel Again and making sure all the plugs were connected, I started looking at fuses. I found a 7.5 amp fuse had blown causing all the problems with the wipers, dome light, Speedometer, and chime. The only thing I can say is that when you start to take apart the dash to replace the bulbs disconnect your battery, this may help aleviate any blown fuses.

This is driving me mad, does anyone know where to get the standard 4x4 and light switch bulbs, I don't want to get LED's I just want those damn bulbs. I just need to know the size of that bulb.

Just get LED. will last 1000000000 times longer than stock, and look 1000 times better than stock.

Since they all are on at the same time, it would make sense that when one burns out, the rest aren't far behind!

Pretty easy fix. I had one bulb out behind the speedo, but i replaced them all. Took me about an hour and a half. Make sure you are careful with the plastic pieces, they can break easily as well as the clips that hold the plastic in place.

To the OP - thank you very much for the DIY instructions. It took me about 3 hours, but that's because once I had everything apart, I cleaned from the inside of the panel of a lot of the Arizona red dust that came with the truck. If I had tracked my time for the actual bulb replacement, it was really about 90 minutes.

Your question is really old, but I see no one ever answered it. So..for future readers, the dummy lights (tan sockets) take 74 bulbs.

Just to make sure on this, can the battery be connected while you unplug the connectors to the dash or will that cause any voltage spike resulting in damage?

It takes 30 seconds to unhook the battery. Just do it.
