Robert,

I have a 2008 Ranger with 3.0 engine. I have the snap connectors. I changed my filter a few weeks ago and had no probelm. Took me about 20 minutes to do the filter change.
I have more problems with a small line that is attached to the bottom of the fuel filter bracket. No where did I read anything on this line being attached to the filter bracket Line is pain in u know where. After I had the filter in the bracket and reinstalled on frame the small line keep popping out of the bracket. I did not want to bend or more is around too much. Finally I got the small line to stay in the bracket clip.
I have read a lot about changing this filter but I had no problem with the filter. Just the small line was a problem but finally fixed it...............

I just tried changing mine in my 2001 and the filter I got for the above part number, is double the diameter of my stock one that fits in the bracket.... are we sure that is correct?

My 2001 had the plastic push connectors no special tools... but the clear plastic lock broke pin the one side.... now I have to figure out how to lock the one site..

Thanks,
Nigel

newshockerguy,

I believe that NAPA auto parts had a kit to replace the line. This was mentioned on one of these messages a while back. Not too sure about the connectors. Check with you local parts store and see what they say. These connectors is a dum idea anyway. What happen to the old simple wrench type gas fitting connections???

Thank a Vet

These instructions were really helpful, especially how to operate the clips. my clips were sticky and I found that it helped to push the hose a little further on the filter before pushing in the clip.

It was also good advice to listen for the clips to to audibly "click" on the new filter, which means that it's past the metal ring that holds it on. After hearing them click, I made double sure by gently trying to pull them back off to make sure they were holding.

For those who got the wrong filter, its always a good idea to tell the parts store your year and model, and then compare the part you bought with the part you're replacing before you begin. The Hastings brand filter that I was given was a match and installed without a hitch

I shut the switch off at the passenger kick space and waited according to a service Manuel. When I pulled the hose connections I was blasted with gas right into my eyes. Wish I had seen this post first.

Sorry to resurrect a 4 year old thread but I have a rather unique problem:
The PO of my '03 Ranger Edge (Flex-Fuel 3.0) removed the original fuel filter AND for some unknown reason REMOVED the PLASTIC PUSH-IN clips on the 3 line connectors at the filter.

He installed the INCORRECT, Older style (larger diameter) filter as well for some unknown reason....

He used the older style barbed clips somehow to hold the connectors on the filter, I have no idea as to why he did this, and even got the connectors to seal!!

I bought the truck a year ago last month and am just now changing the filter.

I bought the CORRECT filter and was able to remove the mess that the PO created but now I need the plastic (colored) clips that were removed prior....

Anyway.....I have been looking but can't find them yet......anyone know where I can get them??

Thanks!!

you have a problem. only option is go to ford and see if clips can be purchased separately. if not you are looking at replacing lines or reinstall the modified setup. possibility you could get the lines at a wrecker and swap the clips. the lines from ford are expensive.

just replace the lines. I'm sure it will be worth the money as your truck will actually be running again.
