Default Re: How To: Fuel Filter replacment on 2001-2011 Ranger

Just thought I'd share my experience:

Went to my Ford dealership and picked up an OEM Motorcraft fuel filter and got straight to work. With the truck turned off I pulled out the fuse for the fuel pump and then tried to turn on the vehicle for 10 seconds to release the pressure.

Next, I got under the vehicle and used one of those plastic tools to unhook the lines. I kinda got caught by surprise because initially no gas came out so I assumed there was no pressure, but about 10-15 seconds later the main line suddenly starting spitting out about a half-liter of gas, so I put the oil tray under it to catch all the liquids.

Then I took the new filter and snapped it into the clamp and hooked up the lines. From here, I just started the vehicle and held the key down for about 5 seconds to let the fuel come up through the line.

And that was it. Most important thing, make sure you wear safety glasses! Thanks for the guide.

I know that the Rangers and B2300's are essentially the same, but when I went to look for the fuel filter for my B2300 it said that the part number was different. If the fuel filter is different, is the installation any different?

I have a 2008 Ford XLT Ranger. Do I need any special tool to change the fuel filter. Does my unit have "quick disconnects" or what? Pleas advise. It has over 71,000 miles on it and probably sure its never been changed..........Thanks in advance..........

I don't know if this was said previously (bc I'm not going to read all 7 pages) but if your connector breaks I know NAPA sells repair lines but they cost $30. includes the connector, about a foot of line and union to connect the 2. And if you don't want pressure in line you can press the valve on fuel rail (looks like tire valve). Then you don't have to wait 3 hours.

you don't you just have to turn the truck on or turn it over till there is no more air in the filter and lines it will turn on eventually

Thank you for the advice!

Turns out that i add three bottles of fuel treatment and 20 mins later it started. I was pissed and happy at the same time! Lol! I was so ready to change the filter myself! Now im going to bring the filter to a shop and have them do it so i dont brake the lines.

This post is terrific. Managed to get my filter changed with no stress. I would add to the list of items needed, "small bucket".

So I just did this. Didn't drain the engine and only a small drops came out. However, I ordered the 1061 and the box said 1061. But the filter was shorter and stubbier. Didn't notice until after I put it in. It fits into the lines just fine, but is too fat and short to fit in the clip. Should I just ziptie it in and be done with it so it doesn't move?

The video shows a skinny one too. So not exactly sure how I got a short fat one.

I doubt mine had been changed before at 175,000 miles. It had some yellow paint on it that appeared to be from the factory.

So it is recommended to use the motor craft fuel filter rather than another?

Thanks
Nigel

Nigel,

I use the motorcraft filter on my 2008 3.0 Ranger. I usallly try and stick with OEM on my vehicles. I had bought from my local Ford dealer and most of their parts are twice as expensive as on line. I use EBay or Amazon or autopartswarehouse.com. There parts are mostly orginial and the cost is much, much better. I recently orderd a fuel injector for just under $40.00 and the Ford dealer wanted around $80.00 for the same orginial fuel injector. Its pays to shop........................

Thank a Vet..............
JMJ

Just ordered some shocks from rockauto and while I was there I ordered the motorcraft fuel filter... actually ordering it brought my shipping down from 25, to 15 for some reason on the total order...lol

Anyways, Once I get it this week I'll install it. Doubt the original was ever changed.. .it's PRETTY rusty and old looking... hoping it comes off ok...
