Default How To: add extra brake lights

First off grab the following tools:
phillips screwdriver
wire cutters
strippers/crimpers
red butt connectors
two GM turn signal sockets or a Ford cargo light harness.

Start by unscrewing and removing the light housing:

don't forget to unplug the harness

The light should have 3 holes for the sockets

Heres the Ford cargo harness:

and heres mine with the GM sockets:

Cut off the socket with the Pink/Black and Black wires.

Spice the Green and Pink/Black wires together and then spice the Black together:

You should have this:

Then reattach the plug:

and reinstall:

Then test:

You just need to buy the sockets and butt connectors.

I took it off and I only have one light in the middle that never comes on. where do I get the light holders with the X-locking pattern thing? I want to use it as a brake light.

That is suppose to be your 3rd brake light. Before you add the 2 extra bulbs I would find out why the original one isn't working.

This mod gave me a cool idea.

Add the extra bulbs like this how to shows but wire the left & right bulbs in with the blinkers so if you have the brakes on they all light up if you turn the left blinker on the left light blinks & so on..

Running the tail light wiring would be the biggest challenge but still do-able.

Splice into them where they run under the cab to the rear of the truck & run the wires in thru a gromet in the rear floor of the cab.
