Default How To: Blinker Mod

So want your side marker light to have some action?

Tools needed
  • Wire Cutters
  • 1 foot of wire
  • T-Tap wire connectors
  • Electrical Tape

This mod is simple

Take out your headlight http://www.fordrangerforum.com/exter...tml#post131129

on the turn signal harness locate the 1 wire that is colored with a stripe there will also be a brown and black wire but you dont want those

Each year is different and each side passenger side and driver side the color is different

Once you locate it splice into it with a t-tap

Now run the new wire you just spliced into over to your marker light

Now cut the black wire on the marker light and take the end that is going back into the engine compartment and tuck it away. You only need the wire that is now coming off the light socket

Now the wire you just ran over from the headlight turn signal t-tap it into the wire coming off the bulb socket and your done

Here are the results from this mod

Did you bite that wire in half?

Oh also I would recommend putting di-electric grease on all exposed metal, to help keep connections from corroding.
P.S. looks like a neat little Mod, if I get bored I may just give it a go.

LOL no I did this over 2 years ago and I never pulled the signal housing out so I used a razor blade to expose the wire

I am thoroughly confused by this. It seems like a great cool thing to do. I just have no clue how to do it. Haha. I'm beyond terrible with eletrical things. Not gonna lie, I have a unnatural fear of Eletricity

How do I take out my headlight and turn signal harness? And I have another question. Will it flash the same way with the emergency lights on?

PS= white w/light blue stripe
DS= light green w/ white stripe

Remember to use T-tap connectors so you can revers this at any time. Also remember to completely cut the marker light wire in half. The end that goes into the marker light is what you use the jumper wire to tap into

I did the mod recently. I always knew how to do it, but I just finally got around to it. With all due respect, this write up confused me a bit as well. If you still haven't got it figured out I can post some pics too. I can show you with 1 picture what you have to do and make it really simple. I don't like those taps, since they slice right through the wire....

Those taps make it easier to reverse it if you want to

The taps should not cut through the wire if done right

Don't take it the wrong way, I wasn't suggesting that doing it that way is wrong, it's just not my preference. I have some, i just prefer not to use them. How is it easier to reverse? i thought once you use it and push down the little metal piece, it was on for good. Even if it doesn't sever the wire, I didn't know you could pull the little metal tab back up. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Personally in this case, I prefer the strip/twist/tape method. Some may argue it's not the best way, but I've done it that way on another vehicle (and now my Ranger, too) and I've never had a single problem. The black wire going to the marker has to be cut, no way around that, but the way I did it, the striped wire going to the signal just has a little sheathing stripped back, which would require only a little piece of tape to return it to stock.
Again, not saying there's anything wrong with using the taps. That works fine, too. I'm not trying to step on any toes...

I didn't take it the wrong way

T-taps are completely reversible if it is breaking the wire then you have the wrong size one for that particular wire.

Really the t-tap will leave some wire exposed as you also said by the way you did it. If you undo it then some electrical tape will cover it up
