Default Re: How-To: OHC Install

using wiring info in post #105 (page 7), everything works in my 2010, except: display flashes with headlights on. This flashing stops if I roll dome light switch up to ON position. Any guess how to stop this flashing?

Are there different versions of the OHC? The profile of the one I bought doesn't fit the headliner on my Supercab roof. Or did I miss the part where this doesn't fit the SuperCab?

It says Explorer/ Ranger in the eBay ad.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/182141903750

I tried to install this and can't get both the front and back to sit flush with my headliner. It's one or the other. Closest I got still had a space under the front curved section that showed the hole for the mounting bracket. Any ideas what the ?!#% I'm doing wrong??

they look right, I know I had an issue getting mine to line up initially it wasn't wanting to snap into place, how big of a gap do you have

Well, given all the assurances that this darn thing would actually fit I gave it one more shot. After a couple more attempts at lining it up and getting it all tight and straight it does actually FIT!!!

Now all I have to do is get it wired up. Don't want to think about taking it out again to do that, but it's not just supposed to be an ornamental piece is it!

So I get it all wired up and all is looking good. Find out one of the map light bulbs doesn't work. I take off the light cover and remove the bulb holder only to have the paper thin contact material fall apart!! I tested the bulb that didn't work and it's good, so obviously the light socket isn't working. Any quick fixes for that? I bought the OHC on EBay and let the guy know the OHC had a bad socket. We'll see what he says about that. But in the meantime if anyone knows how to repair the socket contact strip I'd like to hear about it !

OK, thought I had this wired correctly. The map light only works when I have the door open and the dome light is on. It doesn't come on when the key is on and the dome light is off. Also, the map light doesn't come on when I turn the Dimmer all the way up so the Dome light comes on.

Any idea where I went wrong in the wiring?

I have a 2004 Edge and I believe I've accounted for the different wire colors between the earlier versions and mine.

BTW, The dimming of the display works when I turn the lights on.

Well it been quite a few years since i have done this but to get the map lights to work correctly you need to tap a constant wire. Im pretty sure I pulled power from the headlight switch since it has the switch to turn on the dome light.

Far as this, one fix....contact Buggman
Basically he makes a led panel for it, way brighter and just plugs in and off you go.

Thanks, guess instead of running a wire to the dome light I should have run it to the dash with the rest of them. What color wire on the light switch did you use? Is there just one hot one I can check for there?

I'll have to check for you tomorrow. We have different wiring so I'm not certain of the wire color yet for your truck.

Thanks, it is a pain trying to convert from one color code to the next. And on the 04 there is no GEM box behind the radio so imagine my surprise when I got there and none of the referenced wires were present! Thought I had figured it all out but the only wire issue now is the switched Map light power! Close to the goal!
