and no need to prime the filter/ system. its only 5 quarts. its not like a desiel with 15quarts of oil. but would add start vehicle and wait for oil pressure to build and then shut off and check level to assure proper level of oil

For those who are unsure what "priming the oil filter" means it just means you pour some of your new oil into the oil filter before you put it back on. Its a good idea but on a naturally aspired engine (no turbos/superchargers which your ranger doesnt have unless you have added one) its not a huge deal as NOT ALL of the old oil is drained so there will still be lubrication at start up. It becomes a big deal with oil cooled turbos such as in many diesels or many turbocharged cars as the turbo bearings can sieze during the initial start up if not properly lubricated.

Hope this helps and hey every man (or woman) has to perform their first oil change at some point in their life, so why not learn how to properly do one now? Man card returned.

I just want to bump this with a quick thanks. I think some people can underestimate how non-tech-savvy new members can be (like myself for instance).

Thanks to this quick tutorial my Ranger is full of some synthetic goodness.

I'm getting a Mobil 1 oil filter but which code number on the box do I get?

A quick search reveals M1210 - is this correct?
