Default HOW TO: Change oil on 3.0

Tools Needed: breaker bar, 16mm socket, 5 quarts 5-20w oil, oil filter.
Now i use motorcraft synthetic blend everytime and motorcraft filter. Filter part no. is FL-400S.

Step 1: Remove bolt from oil pan and let oil drain out.

Step 2: Remove oil filter. These pics show where the oil filter is located.

Step 3: Remove cap to where you put the oil into the block.

Step 4: Put drain bolt back into the oil pan but make sure you clean it off first.

Step 5: Put new oil filter into place. Before you screw the oil filter back on get some oil on your finger and rub it around the rubber gasket on the filter, it will help create a better seal. If your like me you hate putting the new filter in because of the exact angle you have to have the filter in order to start screwing it in.

Step 6: Put new oil in. now the 3.0 has an oil capacity of 4.5 quarts so thats exactly what i pour in.

Step 7: Put cap back on.

Step 8: Start your truck up and watch for the oil gauge to go up. Once its in position your all set.

Step 9: Check oil level. Pictures show the oil dipstick and its location. It has the yellow top to it. Pull it out and wipe the oil off then stick it back in for a few seconds then pull it back out and check the level on the dipstick. If its within range then you have the right amount of oil in the block. It shows mine is high because i had my truck running when i took the dipstick out. For an accurate reading have your truck not running.

Step 10: If you have an ultra-gauge reset your oil distance.

After all of this you are done and you deserve a nice pat on the back.

Good job man! Isn't the oil filter on a 3.0 the funnest thing you could ever do?

I like the location of it on the straight 6 in my F100 alot better.

You dont remove the fill cap before draining the oil?

My father in law always say it helps "purge" the oil out

lol, definitely. The one on my F100 is right on the side of the block, and being an older truck and an inline 6, there's nothing that obstructs it so I can reach it from the top or the bottom.

on the civic when you crawl under the car its right there, the filter is perfectly vertical, unscrew, screw back on lol

2.3L is cake. No angled oil drain bolt, and easily accessible filter.

Should be fun when I lower it though, haha.

My brothers 2.3 is pretty much the same...but even easier b/c the Oil Filter is at the bottom, pretty close to the oil pan drain....and sits vertically in the housing....easy peezy.
