Default How To: Jet Chip Install

Tools you'll need
7/16" deep socket
10mm socket
8mm socket
Tin snips/dikes

1. Disconnect Neg. battery cable. 8mm

2. Loosen 10mm bolt on harness connector(bolt is attached to it)

3. Remove 7/16" nuts from ECU retainer plate and remove it

4. Slide out ECU

5. Snip rear access plate brace points and wiggle plate to break creased points

6. Using scotchbrite pad gently and with "care" remove film from terminals. It is not necessary or advised to remove ECU cover to clean I did it to make it clear what is being done. Take note that I am using a micro screwdriver to ensure an even pressure on the tight side. Ensure that you remove the film from 3/8" of the terminals. Look for them to have some shine to them and little to no copper should show(it means you are removing too much).

7. Blow out all dust and wipe terminals with clean dry cloth

8. Install Jet Chip on terminals

9. Carefully follow this sequence backwards to re-install.

I hope this is helpful to all any feedback on this post is appreciated.

Wow this has been a minute sorry I just found this area trying to figure out why a friend couldn't find it. I think the chip was 2-300, it did make a little bit of a difference but I think I am fighting needing a diff fluid change, I am getting about 18mpg @ avg. 75mph, but I am hoping for better numbers. I just recently started noticing the shuddering especially in 4wd. Sorry for the delay. . .

im not sure what it does for a 3.0 but it sucked for my 4.0 all it did was cost me more on fuel costs becuase you have to run premium. i didnt get any gains what so ever so i replaced it with a tuner. for what you pay for one of those chips you can pay a little more and get a good tuner.

Good to know! I had a tuner on my Formula LT1 and it was sweet!

Thumbs up Re: How To: Jet Chip Install

A BIG thanks for this thread and the pics- what a help! I took out the ECU but wasn't sure it was it until I found this thread and knew to remove the back plate to plug in the JET chip.

Something that may help others that I wanted to share is when the instructions tell you to clean the coating off the connections on the ECU, they mean there is a pretty thick layer of gummy plastic over the under side of the connectors that you have to scratch off. The abrasive pad that JET included with the chip wasn't enough and I had to use a super tiny electronics flat head screwdriver to scrape the gummy junk off each connector point. If you don't get it all off, the truck won't start (I know for a fact).

I have an '03 Edge Ranger 2WD 3.0 and the JET chip made a great, very noticeable difference right away! It runs and shifts (up & down) much smoother now and is more responsive when I stomp on the gas (and this is right of the bat without using 91 octane). To me, this was well worth the reasonable price for a simple plug and play upgrade. It might make a big difference that I've already added a cold air intake, throttle body spacer, and cat back exhaust (all to help her breathe better). The chip made a big difference on top of all those mods.

Yea it takes a minute or two to clean them. You just need to see the shiney.
Im glad this helped you out. Have fun.

Dont understand the part about cleaning the terminals?
The PCB has Gold connector fingers that do not corrode or need cleaning.
Actually any abrasive cleaning will remove the gold which is measured at about 5 microns thick.
NOT RECOMMENDED.
LEAVE THEM ALONE..

Well Nice of you to make this your anonymous post, but you Sir would be incorrect. There is a coating applied over them to prevent possible short circuiting. But thank you for the interesting info about the 5 micron plating. Oh and FYI, any open terminal in an electrical circuit is subject to cleaning no matter the material. Oxidation will form on them, and for gold or any other material a No.2 pencil eraser(pink type) will do the job nicely, simply rub the surface with it.

Ahh, to be young and know it all again. I miss the good old days.
