Default How to: Change Out Rear Shocks

This "how to" is intended to help anyone that needs help at replacing there rear shocks.

Tools Need:

1) 15mm Socket
2) 18mm Deap Socket or Wrench
3) Ratchet or Impact Rench
4) Breaker Bar(if the bolts are to tight for the ratchet)
5) Torque Wrench
6) Scissors
7) Grease/Lube
8) Car Ramps(Not Nessasary)
9) Saftey Glasses

Step one:

Use your breaker bar with the 15mm socket and 18mm wrench on the bottom of the rear shock's bolt and nut. Put the breaker bar on the bolt(15mm) and put 18mm wrench on the nut and turn it to where the wrench hits the axle to it doesnt turn or you can get someone else to hold it for you. Once the bolt is out the shock will then slowly get longer and just hang there.

to this:

Step two:

Place 18mm socket wih breaker bar on the nut of the top of the rear shock and begin to turn. The bolt is welded in place so it wont turn. remove the nut and wiggle back and forth the shock to get it off the bolt.

Step three:

Lube both the bolts where the shocks pivot on. Push on the the new rear shock. TOP PART FIRST! very important so once you get those inplace you can cut the plastic piece and let it work its way down to the bottom bracket. Tighten the nut down after you have the shock on with the 18mm socket.

Step four:

Cut the plastic piece and let the shock grow and it should line right up into place with the bottom bracket. Lube the bolt where the shock pivots on it and push it in. If it doesnt go right in, hit with a hammer, but not to hard so you dont break anything. Put your 15mm on the bolt with the ratchet and 18mm wrench on the bolt and start turning, righty tighy, lefty losey

Step five:

Take the ratchet off and put the 15mm socket on the breaker bar, keep the wrench on so the nu doesnt turn. Tighten the bolt down so it is really tight but dont do it has hard as you can, because you migh tneed to remove it later on. Now just repeat the steps with the other side. It might help to drop the spare tire beaucse getting to the top bolt on the driver side is different than the shocks on the passnger side. This is what it looks like in the end.
you can see they face different ways

they do seem smoother! ya my old ones were not strong at all. if i push down on it it will just g up and down, up and down. they need to make it go up and then tiny bit of moving and hold it.
