I just replaced my rear shocks and your "how to" was perfect. Took me and a buddy 30 minutes to do both. Thanks for the write up man. Do you have a "how to" for the fronts? Ill upload pics when I'm not on my phone.

I have some pics in my replacing ball joints how-to. They might help...?

i'm curious about the front as well. i need new shocks all around. i'm assuming it's the same process?

and you don't need to jack the truck up to replace these, right? the leaf springs keep everything up, don't they?

You did a nice job both on the truck and writing it up for all of us. I plan to try this myself--both front and rear shocks soon.

I'm wondering why both shocks are not facing the same direction? I just bought this beatup little pickup a few weeks ago, have been busy replacing/refurbishing, and noticed yesterday that I have only one shock in the back (drivers side.) The pass side has part of the old shock hanging from Behind the axle (same side as the drivers.) I just bought new shocks, and was going to replace them this weekend, and I woulda put the pass side one in behind the axle as it seems it was there before... Would that be incorrect? In you pics and most others I've a'googled have it that way (opposite.) I'll take a pic tomorrow when it's light out. Thanks for any advice,
Matthew

Thank you. Nice write up!

I know this is a 10 year old thread, but it was great to have when doing my 1999 Ranger this week.

I got lucky and the top bolts on the rear were still in good shape. My Ranger has 230,000+ miles and living in Northern Virginia where they salt the roads evey winter.
