I was wondering, how close are the lights to the grille? Also is that the horn atached to the L bracket behind the light?

I wanted to add to this discussion a little bit. I honestly didn't see this until I had done mine, and this is very well written, but I did mine sorta like this, but a tad different. I just drilled into the fiberglass bracket about the radiator, and mounted my lights up-side down, and have been running them as such without any problem. Everything else is the same for me. Great write up!

I was thinking of doing this to my truck, my plan was to get an led bar for the bumper, probly a 30" or 40" and convert some hella 500's to HID to give my light a little more reach. What do you guys think?

I searched all over the forum and finally found this thread, specifically looking to see how to work around that damned trans cooler and you go and say this lol

I have spotlights mounted on my bumper, but when I rammed some guy (for jamming on his brakes on the highway) my light got pushed back through my grille. I've replaced the plastic honeycomb insert with 3/4" expanded steel and wanted to move the lights behind it for protection. Has anyone done this on an '01 with the trans cooler?

I know you guys are running Hella slims, just how 'slim' are they? The lights I have now are just cheap harbor freight lights for now, but they're like 3.5" deep.

You might fit those in my trucks a edge so I think your grill will have more room

ive thought about moving my lights off my rack and behind the grill, only 3/5 are acctually set up. I think 2 behind grill is better then 3 on the roof, yes? throws light to far from the roof, i want to see whats infront of me lol.
has any one used an stx grill? or had experience?

my picture shows a bar grill^ but its stx now (the dark grey horizontal slats)

Well my grille got smashed in and I made a new one so I guess I could just make the grille farther out if I really needed to to fit the lights lol

No experience to go on, but my plan is to get flood lights mounted on the bumper to see what's in front of me, and spotlights on the roof to see what's down the road. Just makes sense to me.
