Default How To: Replace Idle Air Control vavle (IAC)

This is how to replace the IAC from the haynes manual.
The Idle Air Control valve controls engine idle speed by allowing a small amount of air to bypass the throttle plate. The PCM contols operation of the IAC valve.

Step 1: On most models, the intake Air Control (IAC) vavle is located on the throttle body. Remove the cover of the throttle body to gain access to IAC vavle. On 2001 and later 2.3L engines, the IAC is mounted to the intake manifold.

Step 2: Disconnect the cable from the negative negative (-) battery terminal.

Step 3: Disconnect the electrical connector from the IAC vavle.

Step 4: Remove the two (2) screws securing the IAC vavle to the thottle body. Note: If you're replacing the IAC valve on a 4-cylinder engine, the job can be made easier by removing the throttle body from the upper intake manifold first.

Step 5: Clean off all traces of gasket from the IAC vavle and throttle body. Be careful not to damage the gasket mating surfaces if you must scrape them. Caution: Do not use solvent to the IAC vavle.

Step 6: Installation is the reverse of removal.
