So if I crank my t bars an inch or 2 I will be able to fit 31's or 32's on my 05 edge right? or would I have to get shackles in the rear? and lastly if I do this mod, am I going to affect my towing capacity? thanks in advance for your help and sorry if I sound like a dumb@Z$, its my first ranger and first truck with t bars.

I intend to crank up an inch to an inch and a half. Having read that the newer trucks require more turns, do you think that 6 turns each side would likely yield about that much lift? Would 1.5 inches be too much for the stock shocks to handle?

Another thing, the how-to shows the front lifted and the tires suspended. In order to measure the difference after each half turn as instructed, must the truck then be lowered and driven before the measurements from the fender to the ground are taken? If not, how could any measurement be trusted?

Thanks for the advice.

Once you lower the truck and drive it around the block come back and measure.
it will settle a little bit.

I would do about 5 turns then set it down and take your measurement. When you think you've reached where you want it then take it for the ride and remeasure. Hope this helps.

Thanks STL. Would a 1.5 inch lift be within the stock shocks ability to dampen the ride? Is the six turns about right for a late model 2wd to get there?

Thanks Minigma. I did not see your answer until after I replied to STL.

One further question comes to mind. I have read here on FRF that to acquire new keys and raise the front end that way is unnecessary and a waste of money. Is that true, or is it an unsettled debate?

Aftermarket keys yes are a waste of money

However in 2007 ford used smaller keys for torsion bar trucks. So if you got keys from a 1998-2006 then that is fine cause you can get more lift.

so from reading this Ive mainly gathered that this for up to a 2" lift, does that mean that if I want to go 3" like some torsion bar lift kits claim, Id have to buy one of those kits? and how much lift can the torsion bars themselve handle? also I saw someone else asked this but didnt see a reply, whats a good on/off road shock for the lift thats resonably priced?

3" of lift with torsion bar crank would only be achievable by buying those keys. However they are a complete waste of money. You can get over 2" from stock however 3" is not really possible. 2.5" maybe that is completely maxing them out. Tightening the bolt till it stops turning. Then you really risk ball joint failure and CV failure (4wd)

Best shock would be bilstein or Rancho

If you crank your torsion bars to max and new shocks you will most likely need to add new shackles to the back too. I would use the torsion bars to level the truck then if its still not enough for you look at a suspension lift.

i did 8 turn (maxed the drivers side) skipped the alignment, and put 250 miles since with no problem, just a much harder ride..but not brutal, more truck like than before..even did some wheel, with stock everything no problems..yet lol

Just because there is no "problems" at 250 miles does not mean your alignment is not out.

You should still go and have it looked at. It could be out and you not know it. You wont know it till your tires are bald in a month on one side.
