Just did mine last night. The dome stays on (assuming the door switch is the culprit and explains why the last owner pulled the screw/connection to keep it off) but the map lights do a great job of illuminating the interior when I need light. They're pointed at the headliner (standard cab), but it's still an improvement. And it looks MUCH better than the stock dome light.

I have an 2002 (plug and play) and after the install the dome light doesn't work when you open the door. The center light will come on when both map light switches are turned on (but no map lights) but if I turn on only one map light then that side and the middle light turn on very very dim. is this normal, or should I have it to where the map lights face the back instead of the front?

Sorry it's been awhile since I did mine but the map lights should aim toward the dash as far as your other issues you should be able to find your answer in all these posts..Hopefully somebody with have the direct answer for you.Best of luck it is a excellent mod..Here is the posts

Ugh, it was the ground screw, my old dome light didn't use it and the dome that I got out of a Sable had short screws so I didn't worry about it. Good thing I hade one laying around that was long enough.

For a late 99 ranger, does the mustang dome just bolt right in, no modifications needed?

Worked like a charm! used a dome light from a 94 stang. Although it is dimmer. I will try cleaning contacts to eliminate the issue.

Did mine over the weekend. On my 2000 it had 2 wires & was a simple unscrew the old one & screw the Mustang dome light in; Done.
