How do you know when to use friction modifier? I just did mine and need to put oil in it, so a quick response would be much appreciated. Also mine had a plastic cover on it. Chiltons said they are not reusable so i trashed it and bought a chrome plated steel one.

You only need friction modifier if you have a limited slip rear end.

Also I've heard bad things about some chrome diff covers being cheap and leaking all the time.

General info on the internet. I searched 7.5 rear end oil change, and I found that I should buy 2 quarts of it.

IF your truck isn't radically lifted--i.e. raised your driveshaft/pinion angle--and you're sitting level, then you fill up to the bottom of the fill hole--i.e. it starts coming back out. But yes, you're going to need most of 2 quarts.

PS: the PLASTIC diff cover is one I've never heard of before... what years/models did Ford save a buck by slapping those on???
