He is wondering how to install an auto-dim mirror that has a temp gauge built into it. Something like the ones that come in Mazda 6's.

He was also wondering if you knew if the auto-dims like I just explained come with an auto-lamp feature.

To answer this last question, Eric, it is easy to tell if they do or not.

You'll be able to see a little tiny light sensor on the windshield/mount part (will actually be facing the windshield built into the mount) if it does have an auto-lamp feature.

Best bet would be to get the factory wiring diagrams for the Ranger and also for the specific donor vehicle that supplied the mirror. After you have the color codes from the schematics, the wiring should be simple enough.

Question, I installed my gentex-104 autolamp/autodim over the weekend, and my headlights are on all the time. Today, I turned the key on and the lights were not on until I covered the 2 sensors until they came on. I then uncovered them, and the lights turned off. I covered the sensors again until the lights turned on. Once I uncovered them, nadda. The lights stayed on. Does this mean my mirror is faulty? The auto dim is awesome just watching it dim! I LOVE autolamps!!

I got it sorted. I bought another used Gentex-104 and plugged it in. That one functions for the most part "normally." At first it seemed the slider wasnt working by going the whole 3 minutes of timer. I popped the face off and it seemed the slider was not hooked up. After I put it all back together, I plugged it in and now my lights turn off about 30-45 seconds.

You might want to recheck the diagram. Configured as shown, the autolamps function won't work.

On the relays 86 should be connected to Ground.

Hi
I am hoping someone might be able to help me and im lost otherwise. I have a 2008 Taurus and Im curious on if i can add this mirror to my car and get auto headlights. Heres what i know about my car, from the headlight switch all the wires go to the smart junction block and then the smart junction block turns on the lights. on the Taurus auto headlamp system the auto lamp switch wire goes to the SJB then the SJB receives the signal from the sun sensor which then tells the sjb to turn the lights on

Question is will the diagram displayed in this thread be used on a vehicle where the SJB controls the lights?

All of the electronics are in the mirror. The wire running to the relay acts as a switch for the relays so it should work for your Taurus but the wire colors may be different, I've never worked on a Taurus so im not sure. Pull up the wiring schematics for both vehicles and match up which colored wires you need to splice into on your car

Ok my headlight switch plug is just like the 2010 plug shown above but the wiring is different here's mine

1-GROUND
2-CNTRL MOD, IP SWITCH ILLUMINATION
3-RELAY FOG LAMPS
4-SWITCH AUTO LAMPS ON
5-SWITCH PARK LAMPS
6-SWITCH FOG LAMPS FRONT
7-GROUND
8-NOT USED
9-SWITCH HEADLAMP OFF
10-SWITCH BEAM LOW
