This is the proposed 2004~2006 version. IIRC, someone used this successfully before but, as always, proceed at your own peril.

The power for the dash lights passes through from the same Tan/White and Brown wires that get modded for the Autolamps so that would be a good place to look for possible connection problems. Also, be aware that when the dash illumination goes down, the exterior running lights (except headlights) usually do too.
Good call on the running lights. Those are not working either. I'm sure it has to do with my connections, but they seem fine to me, IDK what to do. Any other ideas?

I just triple checked and the connections seem good there. I really don't care so much about the auto headlights, is there a way step back and not even worry about the auto headlights. Hopefully by doing that I will be able to fix the connection problem I must be having somewhere so I get my running lights and gauge lights back.

Also, any place to get a new headlight switch wiring harness? I messed up a little bit and pretty much used up all my slack on a couple of the wires so I don't have much room to play with here.

That would be awesome cuz I currently can't drive at night, it blows. I can't see my cluster at all. It makes me I know it shouldn't be this hard and I somehow screwed it up, I just wish it was apparent how I pulled that off.

Seriously though if you see a harness at the JY PLEASE grab it for me I'm sure the harness isn't broken itself, but it isn't the cleanest wiring job in there right now...

I would grab a volt meter, concentrate on the parking lamp circuit and trace it from its source.
  • There should be 12~14v on both sides of the #33 fuse (underhood box) all the time. This fuse feeds the tan/white wire.
  • Tan/white wire at the headlight switch should be hot at all times, key on or off, headlight switch on or off.
  • Brown wire at the headlight switch should be hot when the headlight switch is on or when the Autolamps mirror turns on the relay.
Taking it step by step should help you isolate the problem area.

That's actually a really good idea (and one I should have had a while ago...). It could be the early morning thing, but how do I test all of these things, wouldn't it require me to undo my wiring? Or can I pull the fuse and test use the voltmeter instead where the prongs of the fuse would go? And for the headlight switch stuff, would I pull the harness out and test that somehow?

Not sure about this particular fuse but many fuses have 2 test openings where pointed voltmeter probes can go. Just test each point in the fuse individually against chassis ground (Positive probe to the test point, negative probe to a good bare metal ground). The fuse would need to remain in place in the box during the tests. Should be battery voltage (12~14) on the input and output sides of the #33 fuse at all times.

At the headlight switch, you could pull the plug connector and test the terminal of the tan/white versus chassis ground. There should be battery voltage (12~14) on the tan/white at all times.

Testing the brown wire is a little harder because it needs to be plugged in to the headlight switch while taking the voltage reading. It may be possible to sneak the test probe down in the back of the connector. If that doesn't work, I would try reading it from another small wire slid in between the pins. The brown wire should be hot (12~14v) when the headlight switch is on for parking/running lights or in the headlights on position.

Obviously, you need to be careful not to short any of the hots directly to ground during the tests. That would take out #33 assuming that it isn't already blown.

Thanks for this walk through Bob. That all makes sense. I'm not used to car electronics, I deal with computers, so some of this should be easier than I make it seem.
