I did this and I think that the thang is idling much better now! Looks like around 100 more rpm in park and it stays put instead of fluctuating. I'll have to wait and see if the fix isn't just wishful thinking

Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
Well for anyone who is curios about my situation; I cleaned the gaskets that go between the IACV and the throttle body, and also lowered the idle screw a little bit. Seems to have fixed my problem.
Also, I think that the IACV had been "stuck" since I bought the truck so I never got to feel the truck running while "normal"

As easy as removing it for cleaning
Thinking about one of the low-cost OBD2 readers, too, just as a tool to have. First use will pay for itself, versus the $100 or so any auto-shop would want just to plug it in..

Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
For that, I'll get the software and run a laptop next to me, so I can keep that running record as a text document
Works for the fuel injected kawi project I'm working on, so I can't see why it wouldn't work for my Ranger, too

Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
AAAAAANNND....blarghenschlarg.
Y'know that miss I have? Yeah...OBD2 says #6 is misfiring. Okay, so it's NOT the IAC. THis is good news. Wanna know what's stupid about the whole mess, though?
My #6 plug? Yeah..Bosch Platinum. My #1 plug, though? Autolite XP 104. I have, it seems a mix and match set of plugs in my poor, wee beasty of a truck, I dunno who did THAT tune-up, but God help'em if I ever meet'm in a dark alley....(I friggin' despise shoddy/shitty mechanics...)
Next step...Motorcraft SP-432's to the rescue, full set. The plug wires look to be in top shape, and the coil pack seems to check out too. I suspect this will cure my idle issue..

Yeah, defiantly fix those spark plugs, even if it's not the problem. Can't stand when people only replace 1 or 2 plugs....
