Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
Longer life out of the IAC. Too bad nobody did it on my Ranger.
I need to pull my replacement IAC soon and see how it's doing.

Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
Ocassionaly I get a high idle even after the motor is warm. The MAF was cleaned. Would cleaning the IAC possibly help this? Thanx

Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
The IAC is basically a miniature throttle body that is controlled by the computer. When parked or stopped, your foot is off the gas so the throttle body is closed. The IAC opens and closes to allow enough air in to keep the engine idling.
When the IAC becomes too dirty, it will gum up and not open and close as it should. This could result in a rough idle, or the vehicle choking and shutting off when coming to a stop. You may gain a slight increase in fuel efficiency if it is idling so poorly that it is burning excess fuel.
Mostly, cleaning the IAC will keep the engine idling smoothly.

Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)
There really isnt a solid reason that im aware of, I just dont think sticking fingers in the electronically operated Valve would create a positive outcome.
