Default Re: How To: Clean IAC (Idle Air Control)

I hope someone has some good advice for me cuz I'm pretty screwed.

I bought a 2000 Ranger 2.5 didn't have it two weeks and fuel pump goes out. Got that fixed. While troubleshooting my no start issue I tried this little trick. Whilst removing the lower bolt of the IAC valve I snapped it off!!!

I tried it with just the one bolt but now I'm getting a CEL. I used some silicone sealant on the gasket and used 1 bolt and let it sit overnight after I cleared the code but soon as it starts that light comes back on.

Seems to run normal...only way i can see fixing it is removing the intake and use a easy out but that's a small bolt...that probably wont work either. Any suggestions?

bought new gasket today. ford wanted $5.99 for a new gasket and i said no thanks and went to napa and bought make it your self gasket's. Traced the old one out cut then put on the truck and fits like a charm. And it only cost me $1.45 for a big piece that i could use another 2 times.

1. First remove throttle body plastic cover.

2. Remove electrical connector on the side of the IAC (Red Arrows)
Remove the IAC my removing the two bolts holding it down (Blue Arrows)

3. Lay the IAC down on a paper towel. You will notice it is all black on the inside.

4. Using the CRC throttle body cleaner spray the inside. Use a q-tip to rub down in the tight spots.

5. Let dray and reinstall in reverse order.
