I wouldn't necessarily call it performance. The truck accelerates better.

I drive my truck every day so I can tell when it is not "right" it feels like a whole new truck.

You really can not afford not to do this. Simple to do takes about 10 minutes. Every time you change your filter clean it. Especially if you work or drive around dusty area's

I've cleaned mine twice when a check warning light came on. One time I had over oiled my K&N air filter. The other time it just came on. An alternative to what is suggested here was all I could find web-surfing yrs ago. Tuner cleaner (meant for a home stereo). 1st time I used the whole can. 2nd time still have most of it. Both times it worked. Excellent pics in this article. Neither time did I remove the sensor from tube it is mounted on...they are calibrated after assembly, where they are made.

I want to do this but the problem I have is that the screws fastening the the MAF are security torx not the regular torx. Is there a way I can open the MAF because the normal torx bit won't fit??

I had to pull mine out due to the aftermarket intake.

You can buy a torx bit that will work on the security type.

Or just remove the intake tube and you can still see the MAF sensor.

If you're feeling adverturous, this is what I did.

Drilled the Tox out, then replaced with a new, phillips screw

I just cleaned the MAF on my truck a couple of days ago. It runs a lot better. Like STL said, it's not so much the performance improvement as it is the acceleration. I noticed that my truck was idling better as soon as I replaced it. The in-town and highway acceleration was much crisper, and it didn't feel like the truck was struggling to get enough air. Hmmm, I wonder why....

I'm also checking my mileage to see if there's any improvement. I'm sure there will be, but I'm curious to see the proof.

Yea... my truck always runs better with a clean MAF. I try and make sure it is perfectly clean every 5k miles or so.
