Default Fan Clutch Pulley removal

I have a 2005 2.3, 4cyl, 2wd, stndrd. trans. with a/c and power steering Ford Ranger XLT. The timing chain cover has been removed and the new cover ready to be installed. One problem though, for the life of me the fan clutch pulley will not come off. I have a 3 prong puller with a 3/8 bolt in the shaft on the pulley. Any more tension on the puller and I'm afraid that it might break. It has to come off so it can be installed on the new cover. Does anyone have a remedy?
