well, after having no luck finding a how to for 98+ rangers, ive decided to try it out and see where i got with it. im very happy with the result!
Precautions: cut / drill fenders carefully!!! once you do this you cannot go back unless you buy a new fender. time took about 4 hours, and difficulty was about 4/10
Tools used: ARB 80 series land cruiser snorkel
a second person
3 1/4" ( mandatory )and 3" hole saw ( optional ),
various drill bits,
dremel with cut off wheel,
file
Materials: (2) metal hose clamps - 2.5"-3.5"
hi temp water resistant silicone
4" white dryer duct hose ( not metal flexible dryer hose it is not bendy enough
Procedure: ignore filthy truck lol
the kit comes with a drilling template, line it up with the fender as it shows to the top of the fender. DO NOT DRILL THE HOLE CLOSEST TO THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. IT WONT WORK.
i then used a small center punch and punched small dents where the holes needed to be drilled. AGAIN DO NOT DRILL THE HOLE CLOSEST TO THE FRONT
took the template off, and drilled the holes including the snorkel hole
remove front fender , consists of bolts in behind the headlight, along the top of the fender under the hood, inside the passenger door jam front, under the passenger floor right behind the wheel well.
Do you see that vacuum ball thing above the fender liner? you need to move that out of the way, i didnt get any pictures of it but i moved it down closer to the front of the truck .
Once that is moved out of the way you need to take out your air box.
Drill your 3 1/4" hole into your inner fender wall just underneath the airbox side mounting holes. There isnt much room so just do your best to center it. may need to dremel to make it bigger. file down all sharp edges.
Next up is seal off the front of your air box. i already had the air box mod, but if you havent yet, take off your air box silencer. I found a flat piece of plastic, cut it to shape and siliconed it over the hole sealing it ( no pic)
then drill a 3" hole in the side of the airbox closest to the fender, making sure to line it up to the fender hole you already drilled.
Next, is to find something to fit into that air box hole that will make it possible to clamp a hose onto. I used a small paint can, that i cut out the bottom so air can flow through, and mounted it half in half out like this > i used the string to hold it in place while the silicone set.
while that was drying, i mounted the snorkel to my fender, if you have 2006+ flares you will need to trim the top of them to accommodate the snorkel.
after all of the silicone is dry, run your dryer hose through inner fender onto your modded air box adapter..( my paint can ) put silicone around it first so when you clamp down it becomes air tight. it may take some bending and forcing into the fender, but it will go through.
this is the dryer duct you need
now get a friend to help hold up the fender with the snorkel, quickly measure the length needed for dryer duct, and cut accordingly.
clamp dowm the other side of the dryer duct to the snorkel, and fit your fender back onto your truck.
make sure that when you stick your hand over the top of the snorkel the truck stalls out ( verifying that is it air tight and water proof!) and enjoy your new snorkel!!
