For comparison sake:

The competition put a stock truck on a dyno and put down 153hp & 176 ft-lb of torque at the rear wheels. Afterwards his truck had the following results: 216 hp, 250lb ft-lb of torque @ the wheels @ around 5.5lbs boost.
So the 4.0 loses a shit ton of power at the rear wheels?

Id like to know what its making at the crank.

Well yeah, if you're trying to compare factory specs.

That's what the 'before' RWHP number is for.

I highly doubt anyone is going to physically pull their engine out of a Ranger & put it on an engine dyno just for that. lol

Hell, not many people ever even put a Ranger on a chassis dyno for a real before & after. Even fewer have the need to have it actually tuned by strapping it on.

It's just a Ranger afterall. lol

The before & after wheel horsepower shows an accurate increase.

In the real world, wheel horsepower is all anyone talks about. It's easier to reproduce and is takes into account the actual conditions of the vehicle the engine is in.

Go for it!

If this was out 8-10 months earlier - I would have used this as the basis for my setup.

For my finished product - I still would have had to modify stuff, but just the plenum & manifold on this setup blows the competition away!

Question, this kit is only set up for 3lbs of boost, correct? Can you run 6 with this kit?

Does anybody make forged parts for the 4.0? Like pistons rods and the crank?

@02RangerFX4

This kit is "set-up" for a lot more than 6psi boost. However, it is only good for about 4psi of boost if you don't want to tune your ecu and change injectors. The 3.5 pulley will top out around 4psi and your stock ecu and injectors will compensate for it.

@Yeller
You mentioned "your engine will hate you". I'm guessing you are referring to how your engine will handle it if you do not remap your fuel. If so, you are correct. Your engine will lean out due to the limited flow capacity of your injectors. Your lower heat range plugs will also aid the pre-detonation and your engine certainly will "hate" that. But you can safely upgrade this kit to an 8psi boost quite cost effectively.

@Sole
You asked if anyone makes forged rods etc. The answer is yes. I don't have the info in front of me... but since this exact 4.0L SOHC engine setup is in the 2005-2009 4.0L mustangs... just search for 4.0L mustang products and you'll find it pretty quick. PS.. with upgraded internals you can go a lot farther than 8psi (I would upgrade the rocker springs first to avoid valve lift... may have problems here if you go over 12 psi). Also.. you can change the compression too and make a lot more power. We've seen this engine make 490 hp with boost. We are going to try making more, though!
