Default How To: Halo headlight mod

Hey, Just got these headlights and thought I would post a how to.

First, we need to rip out the halogens that it came with.
pull off the rubber boot on the back, locate the bulb and the ground wire

Cut these two ends off, strip the wires and get your HID kit.

Now connect: Red to Green and Black to Black

Then slide the HID bulb in and close the bracket back over the top

Cut the boot so the HID grommet will fit in. Also cut a small hole for the headlight connector (just below the grommet). This is what it will look like. Clean but a lot of wires.

Take off these molding pieces. Same on both sides.

Lift up on these two brackets that hold the headlight in. Pull out the one my hand is on. The new headlights have different brackets.

Pull old headlight out and disconnect these wires.

Remove these screws and disconnect corner light.

In the following next steps. It is up to you which lights you want to connect to the signal/park/headlight wires

Cut off connector or splice into these wires from the corner. These are your park lights.

Like so. I decided to cut it off. Black to Black. Gray to White

I also put the Halos in to the park lights. Again, Black to Black to Black. Gray to White and Red

Now it time for the signals. This is the brown connector. Cut the Black wire behind the connector with enough room to splice. Cut the green wire behind the connector with enough room to splice.
Splice White to Green and Black to Black.

Connect your headlight.

Pull off these clip nuts (name?) Install the ones that came with the headlights.

Install this bracket that came with the headlights.

Slide headlight in (tight fit with the new wires. I had to zip tie the wires to make it easier. Install this bracket that came with the new headlights where you removed the old one.

Slide down other bracket

Your done with one side! My son was done helping at this point.

Do the same to the other side. When your done attach the ballasts and connect your HID's. No how to on this I figure we know his by now.

Here is the turn signal. Took me three shots to catch it. Three LED's at the top and the double filament amber light under the HID Halo.

Hi Beams

Projector Cutoff (Light above line is Halo)

And some more pics:

Good luck. Do at your own risk!

major fail on those projo's for me. Just as I thought...cheap crap projos. Thanks for the info and the write up. They are cool and they're growing on me. But that glare is just about as bad as HID in halogen housing. Better than halogen housing, but still not quite right.

Unless the halo's are really throwing that pattern off. Is there any way you can unhook those halos and retake the pic against the garage?

I can, not sure if I'll do it for awhile (got some other projects to do first) I had an RX8 a few years back with factory HID's and I know what your talking about. I think this is the closest I'll get to that with Ranger headlights. The Halo completely messes with the HID's but its a give and take. Turn off the Halo's and loose the look. Or leave them on and have the glare. Hey, either way I think they are better than the stock lights and I don't think I can find better. Thanks for the opinion though.

Hey, I ran the halos to a on/off switch in the cab. It didn't change a thing on the projos's cutoff. Not even worth taking another pic. It looks the same. Oh well, I still like them. Minus that glare........Next will be halo fogs.

hey, i did this mod on the weekend. excellent how to, except there is was one issue. when i cut the parking light connector off, the wires were different. my power wire was grey, and my ground wire was black with a stripe (yellow or grey, i cant remember)

i think its just cause my truck is newer, but other than that, this how to helped me a lot.

thanks!

Simple, you pull out the garbage ones that come in those lights and toss them in the trash.

Your doing it wrong, it should be like this.

No glare, nice even projection, no streaks either.
