Your Ranger comes from the factory, the fog lights turn off when the high beam headlights are on.

This mod will allow your fog lights to stay on when your headlights are in the “High Beam” position.

Tools:
Pliers

Step 1:
Open up the hood and locate the power distribution box. Located on driver side up by the firewall.

Step 2:
Remove the lid from the power distribution box.

Step 3:
Locate the fog light relay
2001: 48A it is also located in different location then shown in illustration
2002: 48B
2003: 48B

Step 4:
On the bottom of the relay you will see several terminals. Use a pair of pliers and bend the # 2 terminal or you can simply break it off which ever you prefer. If you break it then you must buy new relay to reverse this mod.

Step 5:
Now replace the relay. If you chose to bend the terminal when you put it back in that corner will sit a little higher. Replace the lid on the power distribution box and test the results.

Yes just bend or break off the pin and reinstall and it will work.

Will this work on a 1998 as well?

STL - my 03 XLT 4x4 is different, the fuse box looks a little different and the fuse blocks i pulled look different then your pics, any suggestions?

Man I got my truck new in 01 and didnt Know till today that my fog lights went off when I turned the High beams on. Really good Mod only takes a min.

This was done for demonstration purpose only on a 2005. The relay is in the same location but mine on my 05 is different than yours. I only have 2 prongs and u will have 3 like this

Thanks for the walk thru. this was a great mod but instead of looking at the the bottom of the lid for the numbers i looked in the owners manual. F.Y.I. For an 01 in the manual #48b is the fog light relay not 48a

Some 01's it is a and some it is b I believe the earlier 01's it is a

I read your write up, great idea, I hate when the fogs turn off on hi beam. I didn't want to bend up or break off the leg on the relay so I checked the wiring diagrams for my son's 2002 Ranger, If you take out the relay, throw it in the glove box, make up a jumper wire with 2 spade lugs about 3" long and jump pin 2 to pin 4 (see the underside of the relay for pin location) It does the same thing and you can save the relay for later

just buy or pull a relay from the JY, and than you can have a spare.
