Default How To: Replace coil pack

alright its really simple, but in case anyone was wondering i took some pictures and ill give ya a run through.

this is done on a 99 4.0, but i believe all 4.0 rangers are the same, and i would put my money on the 3.0 rangers being basically the same.

what you need:
coil pack (im using an aftermarket one but it is the same installation process)
flat head screwdriver
8mm socket wrench.

HOW TO:

first take your flat head screw driver and pop the little tab on the plug connector off the side of the coil pack.

then remove the connector and take the 4 bolts (one on each corner of the coil pack) out with the 8 mm socket wrench. pull the little silver tab with a wire off to the side once the screw is off.

once those are out squeez the tabs on the spark plug wires and wiggle the wires out one by one. be very sure you dont mix up the order they go, put them into the corresponding holes of the new coil pack.

then when the wires are all plugged into the new coil pack and you made sure not to mix the order up screw the 4 screws back into the holes, make sure to get all 4 started before tightening them up, and make sure the little silver tab gets screwed down with the drivers side front screw. plug the connector back in and start your truck up to make sure everything works.

on a side not i used a screaming demon high performance coil pack, they suggest for optimum power gains that you gap your spark plugs to .065 of an inch for best performance. i had replaced the plugs last week with iridium tipped plugs and gapped them already.

yeah i have almost new wires that are motorcraft, i dont see a need to change them right now since they are 8 mm cores. but yeah the under dog performance ran out of them i think. but if you get it from summit, dont get the hi po wires just get regular 8 mm core wires and you will be fine.

as for if she has more power today it seemed a bit more peppy than normal there are some longer black marks than normal on the street to prove it hahaha but i think the engine

as for mileage just went out and got gas today, i got 19.7 mpg before i was averaging about 18.5ish so it may have helped out, hard to say seeing as my best before that was 18.9 so maybe just a bit. its not a decision i regret at this point
