Default 2000 XLT 3.0 4WD -- hard to start (need to flood start it)

Hi -- my son's ranger just had the ABS Speed sensor replaced (thanks to you guys for your help on that), but it now is showing the Flex Fuel Sensor needs to be replaced (I don't have the code, that's what he was told -- and is 350 miles away). Well, since he doesn't run flex fuel and it's $800 to replace, he opted not (I agreed). Since then, it's been hard to start (at first thought it was battery or starter) - he has to flood start it/give it alot of gas. If it's warm, he says it's fine and starts normally. Could it be the flex fuel sensor? Any other thoughts? He doesn't drive it everyday (is in college and walks to classes alot)...maybe just a couple of times a week at most.

thanks,
greg
