'87 Ranger with a frustrating problem
Recently my 1987 Ranger ran out of gas(naughty naughty). After putting more gas in it and bleeding the fuel line, it still wouldn't start. I then listened to the tank and could hear the fuel pump start to prime when the key was turned on so that wasn't the issue. Next I tried starting fluid to get it going. It started but then promptly died. After going into a bit of a rage, I decided that I'd let it sit for a bit.
I went back a few hours later and the truck started right up. I got some gas and it drove around the block just fine, no funny noises or anything. I decided to take it a little further down the road and just after a stop light, the thing died again and wouldn't start just like before. I let it sit for another hour or so and it started again without problems and I was able to drive it back home.
It's now sitting in my driveway and will start and then die at a random time. Am I looking at having to drop the gas tank and change the filter, or is there something simple I'm missing here?
