Hey guys, I have a '97 Ranger that started whining a while back. I noticed the Power steering was getting stiff and the noise would get louder as I turned the steering wheel from stop to stop. The power steering fluid resevoir was pretty low so I filled it back up, noise got better, but then it came back a week later and it was low on fluid. I replaced the pump and the pressure lines myself which helped alot, but it was still losing fluid, just at a slower rate. Took it to the dealer and had the steering gear replaced, only because I didn't have the stuff to do it myself. They told me the system would still squeal because it had to "aerate", needless to say 2 weeks later it still whines. Maybe it's the pump I self installed, but not sure. Ideas? similiar problems?

I would take it straight back to the garage who fixed her up. I read a ford review on this and it is uncommon for this noise to occur. Is your power steering fluid still clear. any signs of water!!!

take it back, but odds are they are going to say it is the pump from the fuild running low
