air filter cleaning

i have a s@b cold air intake system. it was on the truck when i bought it so i dont know much about it. the fiter looks pretty dirty and i want to clean it. i see they have a kit for it but is it worth it or can i just do it with soap and water or carb cleaner or something? and can i use a different type of oil or do i need the oil for it? thanks for the help

i recharged my K&N with the recharger kit. it ran me about 12 bucks or so. i dunno what the recharger kit for the S&B one costs. I say it's worth it because you don't wanna mess it up. but i dunno.

Actually. Depending how many miles are on it, you probably can just wash out the dirt and plug it back in. you don't have to recharge them all the time.

that's just what they call it. same thing as wash out. it's dumb i know, but that's just what they call it.

On the K&N they say no soap just rinse with water from the inside out thoroughly,let dry completely 24 hrs,then spray on there oil and install. I keep a Fram filter and put it in while cleaning the K&N then switch it back.Hope this helps.
