Default 4.0 SOHC Crankshaft Seal/Knocking Problems

So here' my problem....For the past few days iv been hearing this knocking sound from my engine and trying to figure out what it is, so i look under the truck and see oil leaking from my crankshaft pulley. Now my question is how much damage has this caused on my engine? Is there bearings in there? or could it just be the pulley itself making the knocking?

There was also a high pitched squeal when i accelerated but stopped when i let off the gas and continued when i would accelerate again. I'm sure these problems are connected but not positive.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

What rpms does this knock happen at?

The noise happends at idle......its off beat and i have heard it get louder when it get hot...i think lol....i went under the truck and i think i have pinpionted the noise to the front of the motor just above the oil pan.....kind of sounds like its coming from the oil pan, but i really dont think so.

Sounds like a rod knock. My 3.0 exhibits this erratic random noise, but it has slowly gotten worse and worse. (Don't leave seafoam in too long!) you can identify if it's a rod knock by unplugging the spark plugs one by one while it's running up at the coil pack and see if the noise goes away or lessens.

Yes there are bearings on all the crank journals, there are 6 rod bearings, and 4 main bearings. The main hold the crank down into place, while the rods spin around the crankshaft and are connected to the pistons, which is why if it's a rod knock it'll lessen if there's no spark slamming it back down.

Just realized this thread is old but still posting. Somebody else out there may find the info valuable!
