Default Annoying Gas Gauge

My gas gauge goes up and down on the slightest incline. I park on flat land and wait a couple minutes a have a quarter tank. If I go up a hill I have a half a tank, if i go down a hill the gas light comes on. i never really know how much gas i have unless im on flat land lol. anyway to fix this? Thanks in adance

also my older truck did that. but it was just cuz the gas would slop around in the tank, around the sencors. so it would think its lower then it actually was..

is it a 2001? it would be surprising if that new of a vehicles gas guage would be affected by the gas sloping around in the tank. I need a hole new sencor, and the only way i can get that is buy getting a hole new tank that has one in it. or according to my mechanic.
i would think you could fix it, maybe ask a mechanic if it sounds like a easy fix id do it myself.
i think its just the gas moving in the tank when your on an incline or stoping and accelerating, not sure how you would fix that though. maybe a new sencor, im not sure.

not trying to be a smarta^^, but until you figure out a way to keep the gas from moving around in the tank, there is no way to keep the gas guage from not moving around. I now own my 4th ranger and 2nd explorer and this has happened in each vehicle.

Happens to me all the time as well. If I'm driving down a hill, its on E when i have a little more than a 1/4 tank. You get used to it. I havent run out of gas yet, but I sure do push it. haha!

You will have to drop the tank there is a styrophome floater located in the tank to indicate the level of fuel. My 92 Chev Corissica was doing the same thing I dropped the tank replaced the fuel pump and the floater and it worked great after that.

They used Styrofoam? WTF? Gasoline dissolves polystyrene. Either youre mistaken or an engineer needs to be beaten....

i never had mine ever came on before. i just filled up tonight put 10 gallons in and it was on "E" i think mine is a 16.9 tank and it drives me insane that i fill up to early. i rather go once a week then twice. it cost me 30 bucks for 10 gallons. keeps going up. it was costing me 26 for a while now here we go with the ass raping from the oil companies!

Hey, my gauge does the same thing. I usually go off the miles and the gauge. The truck needs fuel somewhere between 250 and 300 miles. Good luck.
