Engine Sounds Like Giant Fan
Hey all, new to forums my 3rd post i think here, I was wondering when i turn on my 2006 it always sounds like a loud fan is that how it was meant to sound in order to silence the actual engine noise or is something wrong with my truck? If it is the normal sound of the engine I was wondering how can i make it sound like an actual engine and not a fan. Too make things easier my truck sounds currently like this when i turn it on, HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, but i want it to sound like this Prr-rr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r- like the purring of a cat hope you guys get what i mean.

Yup they sound like that..I have a K & N cold air intake, and a Flowmaster 40 muffler, and I no longer hear the fan

Awww thats sick dude thats exactly how i want my truck to sound thank you , about the muffler does it make the truck vibrate alot. My uncle has a muffler on his truck and its loud and i can feel the vibration inside the truck and the vibrations irritate my ears like when you put your head against the window of your truck and it vibrates.

No. I'm surprised it sounded so good in the vid...it sounds good in person but it's not super loud. If you YouTube your truck with whatever exhaust, it's pretty much on there.give you an idea

I don't know much, but does anybody think it might be the fan clutch failing?

If it sounds like your driving thru a hurricane, then your fan clutch is stuck on. I went thru several fan clutches before I installed an e-fan. I love it and will never go back. I did a write up on how to do a Taurus e-fan install a few years back. It's cheap to do, and IMHO its better than any aftermarket fan kit out there.

Re: Engine Sounds Like Giant Fan
I've been through two Rangers with 4.0's since the beginning. Yeah, when you first start them in the morning, they pull some air for maybe 10 - 15 seconds, then the clutch backs off. No biggie, normal operation. I don't know what you mean by making it sound like an actual engine, I mean, these are four or six cylinder vehicles, that's what they sound like, fours or sixes, if you want the actual engine sound of an eight then you gotta buy or swap in an eight.

Re: Engine Sounds Like Giant Fan
If it is the fan clutch I can just fix it but i know my truck can sound like an engine with the purring sound not a giant fan.
