CPS? (Crank Sensor) Maybe??? it could be bad. have you checked to see if your getting spark or not? also check your fuel pump relay in your power dist. box under your hood.

You didn't say what engine. I had a 2.9 that acted like that. It was the module mounted on the distributor. The unit was $100.00 back then and took just a few minutes to change out, OR it could be the stator in the dist., which was $20.00 for the unit but $80.00 for labor so it ended up costing $100.00 in any event.

Just re read your post, I'm thinking the 1986 Ranger I had.

You need to do what he ^^^^^^^said.

Approach this logically.

1) do you have spark?(check more than one)

2) what is your fuel pressure?

3) buy a code reader and check for codes.

Report back with the results!

If you are not willing or able to do those suggestions I would consider towing it to a mechanic.

The ECM very rarely fail, however if yours did maybe you blew a fuse or toasted a relay.

As stated we need to know the engine

If you can't get a fuel pressure tester for know you can put the truck at KOEO abd put a rag over the schrader valve(tire valve) on the fuel rail. Carefully push in the valve. If you have pressure it will come flying out. Be carefull!

That stuff^^^^^^^ is not applicable to his truck. He does not have a distributor
