Default power steering/ ball joints problem

i have a 1999 3.0L XLT 4x4. Whenever i turn my wheel my power steering whines and is hard to turn, im assuming that i need to get that replaced soon. But my question is what is all the parts involved in that? A pump, pulley and torsioner? because my pully has a little bit of play in it. Also, Whenever i hit a bump theres a sort of clanking and clunking noise coming from the front.. im worried its my ball joints how does one know if their ball joints are bad? And also how to tell if you have a torsion bar on the front suspenion?
