Default Squeaking coming from back of truck

Hi, I have a 93 Ranger and I have an annoying squeaky noise coming from the rear of the truck. I have done much research online, people said check the belt & it isn't that. Plus the noise seems to be coming from the rear of the truck.

The squeaking squeaks faster if I am going faster. It only seems to do it when I am coasting either in gear or in nuetral (manual trans). When I am on the gas it doesn't make any noise at all! It still squeaks when I apply the brakes. I am so confused on what it can be. Any help will be much appriecated.

we were looking at it today, we think its the.....shit i forget the name of the bearing...its the one right in the front of the rear thats behind the drive shaft. i have a nice amount of play in the drive shaft. we are going to see if we can get at it iwthout opening up the rear...by removing the drive shaft. my dad just replaced this not to long ago either...i have a feeling he didnt do something right

are you talkin about the carrier bearing? If that was it, i'd just pull that whole driveline out, and put a solid driveline. You can swap in a 98+ ranger's driveline without any trouble unless you get an aluminum shaft(like i did)

No carrier bearing to deal with, and just have the flanges on both sides with the u-joints way nicer and zero vibration too

Are you sayin its the drive shaft itself? It looks like the U joints are fine, but the drive shaft has lots of play where it goes into the rear end...thats why I was pointing towards the carrier bearing

No your driveline is probably fine, i'm just saying if you put in a solid driveline it reduces the amount of the moving parts(hence something that can go bad) and reduces vibration from the driveline too. I spent $125 for my swap. Got a solid driveline from a 02 ranger ext cab for $100 and then i had to get a different "custom" u-joint for the front since i got an aluminum shaft.

remember you have a two-peice driveline. That carrier bearing is sitting up by the frame on the top side of the frame support right behind the transfer case. If it has lots of play where it goes into your rearend you've prolly got a bad seal in your rearend, or worse haha

Well, my dad just had it apart...but sometimes I wonder if he f&#%'d somethin up haha. The drive shaft I have isn't stock. Not sure what it is because it was on the truck when I got it, but my one buddy whose a mechanic told me it isn't the stock one since its too "beefy". We are gonna check the carrier bearing and put new seals in and see what happens.

It seems as if some kind of spacer or something was missing. Cause when your on the gas there is no squeek @ all. Maybe the bearing is in place then doing its job then as I let off the gas or coast since the drive shaft isn't pushing back on the rear the bearing isn't seating right and squeeking? Thats only a thought though....I don't know much about mechanics haha

haha, well the only way i've learned about mechanical stuff is to get in and do it I've messed a few things up, but if you take your time when you're starting out, you can do most things. Just being able to give up whatever time you have to do the project is generally the problem.

As far as my knowledge goes, a "squek" is generally when something is rubbing against something else but if you do have bearing goin out you can prolly tell if you pull the cover off the rearend and drain the old oil. Check the oil for metal filings, small ones, it should have a kinda sparkly shine to it. there should be a little amount of metal filings just because of the ring and pinion gears rubbing against each other, but nothing huge. Oh, i was just thinking, have ya tried rocking your truck when its off? Just get on the side and push the truck from side to side kinda thing... but hope ya get it fixed soon

Yeah, it seems ok when I rock it when its shut off. I do need new rear shocks though haha I'm going to replace them all. The first thing is to find this squeek when I'm driving...it's driving me nuts!

haha just replace the shocks, they are way CHEAP to do... at least compared to other stuff hahaha. Good luck with the squeek though, i'm not very good at problems unless i'm there hahaha... i'm a pretty visual person, and hands on kind of thing

My 92 had this...it was loose bolts on the driveshaft by the axle. It was just rotating a little bit back and forth at low speed. Does it stop squeaking at aroun 20 mph? Thats what mine did. It sucks I feel your pain.

Default Squeaking

Might try removing the spare tire and drive it. My ranger was doing the same thing. I bolted the spare tire down tight and it quit. Don't know if that's the problem but it's worth a try.
