Default Open headers?

I have been thinking about running open headers on my 4.0, but I'm not sure if it will hurt the engine. I would also like to know how to deal with the o2 sensors if I do run open headers. ( thinking about putting flowmaster 44s on after the cab )

Just remember that when you reduce the length of pipe the temperature changes are more dramatic and will cause problems over time... I would not recommend it other than for a few seconds or minutes in the garage etc to check on issues in the exhaust system. This comes from hanging in the pits at a local track and garage for one of the racers. You would need long tube headers to reduce the drastic temperature change since there is longer pipes that would slow the change of cold air entering the exhaust ports/valves.

The idea is to have enough pipe length so that the cold air warms to some degree that it does not hurt the exhaust valves. You could have a pipe made to replace the cat or buy a "TEST" pipe, not sure they still sell those anymore, with all the EPA Clean Air Regs... Check with a local exhaust shop.

I know this thread is dead, but I'd rather not create a new on, what's the loudest exhaust system for my 4.0?

Oh blah not everyone has emissions testing. Rip the cats off if you want to..at least try to run a muffler though
