Exclamation Rigorous Shaking

I have a 1999 Ford Ranger, manual transmission, 4 cyl 2.5liter 2 wd. It is kind of a piece of crap (only because of some serious rusting underneath) The muffler has now officially come off due to rust, and my drive shaft is messed up. I've recently acquired a shaking problem. Now, when I say shaking, I don't mean just a little vibration. I'm talking serious shaking, enough to cause a problem while driving. My gear stick shakes around vigorously as well, and hard, making shifting near impossible. When this has happened, I have had to shut the truck off. When I turn it back on, the problem goes away. Not sure if it has to do with my clutch, or what. My roommate (who knows more about trucks and cars than I do) thinks that it may be a problem with my transmission, and suggested that I post the problem on a forum, such as this. So....HELP!

Your truck has Parkinson's

How messed up is your driveshaft that might be all of it

I'd start with checking the balance on your messed up drive shaft. Also wheel bearings or motor mounts. Could be all kinds of things.

It's starts up fine? Or just when driving? Does it shake more when you accelerate?
