Default 1999 Ranger 4X4 Anti Lock Brakes

Got a call from my daughter concerning brake failure, had brakes done a few months ago, she lives in Chicago and doesn't drive it much. now she pushed hard on the pedal and brake pedal pulses but barely stops.
I am 1000 miles away from her and am trying to assist from a distance.
She took it to a shop they diagnosed as wheel speed sensor failure, any thing else we may expect? There are a lot of really good shops out there, but there are some not so good as well. just would like some background information to help her make a educated decisions from a distance.
