Default Question about selling a Ranger

I have a 2001 Ford ranger XLT with the 2.3l The truck runs, I'm pretty sure it has a busted head gasket. it leaks oil and coolant. The airbags are not hooked up and are not original to the truck. It has explorer leather much seats and console. Over all I would say the truck looks OK... no big dents or dings or anything like that. Probably could use some clutch work but overall it works OK. Transmission is good and rear end is good. Truck has about 165k miles on it. If you were me, how much would you try and sell it for? I just purchased a new car tonight and need to unload the Ranger pretty quick.

You could possibly have gotten more money trading it in. My Dad had a 15 year old vehicle that he received $500 for when he traded it in, but at least his ran. I'd say that you are not going to receive much, and I'd start you're pricing at $200.

Given your description i would have to say you wont get much. The truck is 12 years old, high mileage and if it has a bad head gasket will cost a lot just to repair that. I would call a couple junk yards and ask how much they can offer. Also try one of those cash for cars tow companies. You could always try to sell all the parts but for some people thats more hassle than its worth. Craigslist it at 500obo. Personally i think i would donate it to a high school auto shop class or something just because it would be cool to help out a school.

You'll never get more trading it unless its a push pull or drag or a minimum trade is XXXX place. I'd say toss it on craigslist for 600 obo and negotiate. Any vehicle is worth more then 200 bucks in scrap in most places.

500 obo is what I was thinking. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't out of line or missing something else. As for trading it in, I have been told in the past that I would get zero for the trade in due to the airbag issue

1) Bad head gasket
2) Doesn't have the original air bags so it was definately in a serious enough crash to bend the frame.
3) It doesn't have the original seats and console.
4) Clutch needs replacement
5) 13 years old with 165,000 miles.

$250-$500 from a private buyer if you are lucky.
It probably has or had a salvage title.
Sell it to a junkyard.
