Starting problems
O.k. folks, I have a problem, the truck ran flawlessly for a long time. Drove it home from work last Thursday, no problems, ten minutes later, after shutting it off, went back out to start it and it sounds like the starter is grinding on the flywheel. After installing three new starters, A brand new battery, and new battery cables, its still doing the same thing.-No Improvement. I'm open to any and all ideas or suggestions. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Could be the teeth on the flywheel or flexplate. See if you can get the engine to rotate a little, maybe from the crank pully. Anything to put the flywheel in a diff. spot. then try the starter. Our man lift at work does the same thing. Gets real anoying, trying to start it sometimes.

check and make sure that the starter is in the right place and not crooked or something. when i bought my truck it was doing that.. then the clutch went out. i tore it all apart and come to find out there was like 1 bell housing bolt in. so the tranny was crooked and the starter was hitting something. put it all back together the starter is quiet now

Well, I went back and double checked everything, and there is nothing that points at being the problem. Still working on it, will keep you posted.

Re: Starting problems
Well, it took some time, but finally figured it out-I think- The weights came off of the flex-plate, and thenit warped. Warped to the point that the starter won't engage approximately 1/3 of the way around. What I ask is, has anyone ever seen this before? I've spent many years rebuilding cars and trucks, and I must say this is a new one for me.
