Default 4 Wheel Drive engages and disengages by itself

I have a 2002 Ranger, 4 X 4 with a 4.0 L engine xlt (not fx4). Recently, the four wheel drive engages itself and immediately disengages itself at random times, say 3 times over a five minute period, regardless of speed. If I select 4 high, no cycling takes place and it stays in 4 wheel drive. The only other "ghost in the machine" is that the radio will all of a sudden change channels, or try to load a CD without any input from me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Dan

sounds like ya have short somewhere as for the electrical 4x4... i would just pull out electrical t-case and put a manual one it hahaha, i hate the electrical ones cause they are pretty un-reliable, my 4 low quite working when i was mudding so i got stuck up to my frame rails :/ but if not, there are about 3 spots to check for hte electrical t-case, the switch in the cab, the switch at the t-case and then there's a spot behind the jumper seat on the driver's side(i think)
