2007 2wd Front Wheel Bearings Loose?
At 8000 mi the R front wheel hub/bearing became very loose, 1/2" play in wheel/tire. On a trip so I tightened myself, happened again at 12,000 mi, then 15,000, tightened again.Must be the bearing cups not seated? Had Ford look, they did not take me seriously and said there was not a problem!!!
So, ever since then (now 69k) I re-pack the bearings, they loosen up in 2k, they clunk, I tighten, they clunk again and I end up over tighten to stop the clunking and to keep the hub from being loose and it pushes the grease out and then I start the process all over again. New american Timkins 4k ago, same problem, tightened 3 times now (L side 2x, R 3x). I KNOW it is not the norm. .004 clearance between the bearing race and spindle. Any help appreciated...thanks.

Only time I heard of this happening is if there's not a cotter pin and encapsulated nut used
Sent from my HTC One X using FRF App so you can hate on my F150 no matter where I am

Have you had the race checked in the hub?

My Ranger has a standard looking nut with a sheet metal cover for the cotter pin adjustment/lock.
Yes, the bearing cups are seated properly now. May not have been when new from the factory.

Just trying to help but I would assume (maybe a bad word choice) that the only way to get to the bottom of the problem is to disassemble everything and take a inside and outside micrometer reading and see what is out of spec...

Yeah, it might answer some questions, Bob C. The bearings are a matched set and the cups fit the hub correctly, so I have only checked the difference between the inner bearing races and the spindle (.004"). Is .004" enough play to make the hub clunk?

You wouldn't think so...Have you replaced the inner and outer bearings and cups and mic-ed the spindle too?

Re: 2007 2wd Front Wheel Bearings Loose?
Yes, all new bearings/cups, mic-ed the spindle and bearing clearance at .004"....which seems normal to me?
My 99' Ranger clunked once too, it was because of loose bearings, re-packed and tighten them and it was fine.
