Default Brake grinding in snow

I just noticed a problem with my brakes. On dry pavement the brakes are fine. Wheen stopping on even slightly slippery areas my brakes make a hard grinding noise. When on dry area stops fine again. I think truck has antilock brakes. The indicator lights a few seconds when I start the truck. Just started today while the snow was flying. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That is the sound it makes when ABS engages. It sounds really bad but it really is fine as far as i know.

Yeah, it sounds like your abs is engaging because it senses slippage. My Ranger does the same thing. I also get noise when I get a bunch of crap up in my brakes when I'm driving, like out wheeling in heavy powder or they haven't cleared the roads here so there is still 12 inches of snow. If the abs light stays on I'd get it checked. What year Ranger is yours?

The abs in my Sonoma makes a really nasty growl! And the pedal pushes back to. First time it happened it scared the ever living crap out of me. I had a guy turn the wrong way up a one way street straight at me, and I was going downhill fully loaded for the garbage transfer station. It was a hard stop. I pulled over to check my pants lol

What kind of a sound does it make? Just wondering if it is what I might be hearing from time to time... Is it like a deep groul from the rear breaks?

Yeah, I remember the first time I heard it. Kinda puts a pit in your stomach when you are sliding down a hill trying to brake and its just grinding.
