I have a 91 Ranger with transmission problems. 2.3l with the A4ld transmission usually does not want to shift unless you rev the engine and then it'll pop into gear. Once it gets warmed up it shifts fine (of course it doesn't help the temp gauge is broke). It only started recently doing this in July but sat for longer periods of time when I went away to college from Aug to Dec. I've read some forums and the problem may be the governor. I'm not sure what the rest of my options are besides replacing the entire transmission. My boyfriend and I added more transmission fluid. He also wants to try dropping the transmission pan and draining/replacing the fluid and then replacing gasket filter. Thoughts please? I REALLY would like not to have to buy a new transmission unless thats my last hope. Thanks yall!
