Default bet no one can fix my fuel problem

i have a 1999 ford ranger and its not getting fuel. the pump was my first guess so i took it out and jumped it and it worked so it was not a bad pump. i then looked at the inertia swith and it was fine and what not. so im out of guesses of why my pump will not pump.
thanks for your time

you have a returnless fuel system, so you have no pressure at the rail? or just low pressure? you should have 57-72 psi all the time. you could have a tear in the hose in the sending unit. the pump runs wide open all the time with a bypass in the sending unit, letting th eextra fuel flow right back into the tank.
i would see if you have any fuel pressure at the rail, is you do and it is low look at a week pump or a bad hose. how many miles on the truck it may just be time to replace the pump

Anything could happen, do you hear the pump turn on when you turn the key to ON? you should hear it. if not use a test light to see if it is sending power, if no power then the computer may be the problem. I would think it would be more pump related.

did you recently do any wiring work? i highly doubt the ecu just all of a sudden went bad. if your turning the truck on and dont hear the pump kick on then shut off after it builds pressure its something with the pump

having same problem, 99 4.0 with new fuel pump, changed relay, checked inertia switch,12 volts when key is turned on at first, after relay cliks off volts drop to 6v. apply 12v direct to pump it runs strong. if you figured yours out let me know and will do the same.
thanx.

I had a similer issue with a 93 escort a few weeks ago. Drove me nuts for 3 days, trying to figure it out. Finally out of desperation I gave one last look under the dash and found a circuit breaker that was tripped. Reset it and everything worked like new. It was weird because The breaker was no where to be found in any of the wiring diagrams, not even in a mech. friends computer data base. Not sure if your ranger has something simmiler but it might be somethin to look for, if you have run out of ideas.
