Default i was going about 45 miles an hour an the engin backfired and stop

Saint-jean-sur-richelieu, qc, Canada

Hi my first car vas a ranger , i used tu dream of having a big chevy pick up but I bought a ford ,
I heard a big bang like a gun fire and the engin stop turning, i stop on the side of the road and check if somthing was broken on the motor or transmission, no leaking, the starter turns the engin but won't start, what was that bang, can a failure of the engine coil cause a big backfire when it dies? the sound seem to come from the center right under the cab

ranger 87 2.9 v6 156000 kilo

Can someone give me a last hope or help me in this situation?

Ive bought it for 700$ put a muffler and tailpipe, new modulator on transmission and oil and filter change, gas tank and sending unit, brake pads, and now it cost me 1400 and its still broken.

Do you hear the fuel pump run for a moment after you turn on the key? it is a small whirring sound under the middle of the truck. If you do, good
Do you have any spark? Pull a plug and hook it back in the spark plug wire, hold the metal part on "clean" metal surface and have someone crank the engine.
If you have spark, good. Does the plug smell like gas, is it wet? If yes, good
If no to any of these, get a book on your truck from the auto parts store and start reading. Let everyone know the results.
This will get you started.

The bang may have been a backfire, at least we hope that is what it was.
If fuel stopped flowing, the engine goes lean and often backfires.
A crank position sensor, fuel pump, relay, cpu, or even a broken wire can cause this.
Does this one have a distributor? No spark? module, coil(s), coil wire, timing chain, etc
Any one of these can stop a car. It is amazing that they run at all.
good luck
