Default New Ranger owner

Hi everyone. Just picked up a '94 Ranger 4X4 last night. First of all, the owner had this truck sitting for 4 or 5 years without starting it, so I was surprised when it turned over with just a little coaxing. The previous owner was a mailman, so it has a couple scraps down the left side. Other than that the vehicle is in great condition.

The truck does have a couple mechanical problems. First of all, When you put it in gear it lurches forward so it feels like its going in gear(Automatic); however, when you give it gas it just sits there. It does this in all forward gears as well as reverse. The guy I bought it from had been able to drive in second gear around his property. Is this possibly a torque converter problem?

It also has a brake fluid leak. Not a big problem just run new lines. The power steering reservoir is empty so I'm guess a seal must be wore out. I'm guessing it may need an alternator because its draining the battery. I think a fuse maybe out because none of the dash lights or gauges are on.

Tires have over 50% tread and no dry-rot. Surprising since it was sitting for that long.

Sounds like a lot wrong...but I did buy it for $350.

Well, you could address the torque converter issue by just doin some routine maintenance.

Change the 5 qts of transmission fluid or take it and have a flush done (if somebody will touch it, just be aware that they might not in fear of blowing the seals out of the trans).

I might be wrong but sometimes a proper troubleshoot will save ya a lot of money...

And given the conditions, it's been sitting for years, that transmission fluid has probably lost viscosity.

$350 is a steal though, Just concentrate on catching up on the PM after you get the repairs done.

Yeah I changed the fluid and filter in the tranny. Didn't help. Taking her in for a rebuilt tranny next week. Everything else on the truck is fixed. Can't wait to drive her!

Thanks guys!
